To our Parish family of St. James, Kentville,
With joy we share this letter from our Bishop, the Right Rev’d Sandra Fyfe, announcing the appointment of our Rector, the Rev’d Kris MacKenzie, as Archdeacon of the Valley Region as of July 1st 2026:
June 5, 2026

Dear Friends,
It gives me great pleasure to advise you that I am appointing your Rector, the Reverend Kristin MacKenzie, as Archdeacon of the Valley Region, effective July 1, 2026. The Archdeacons serve as assistants to the Diocesan Bishop in that they share in the ministry of episcopal oversight of the parishes within their region, particularly in the areas of pastoral support and leadership during times of transition or difficulty. The complete description of the Archdeacons’ responsibilities can be found in Canon 5 (copy attached). Assuming this leadership role will mean that Kris will be engaged in ministry outside of your parish for up to 20% of her working time. While this will reduce her time available to the parish, it will also enable her to share her many gifts in pastoral ministry to support and encourage the clergy and people of the Valley Region. It will also introduce her to a community of fellow Archdeacons who offer support, encouragement, and guidance to one another and to me. I believe Kris has much to offer and much to gain in taking on this role. I am asking for your support for Kris as she moves into this new ministry, both through your prayers and by working to reshape her responsibilities within the parish, if necessary, to accommodate these new responsibilities outside the parish. All costs associated with her ministry as Archdeacon will be covered by the diocese, so this will not be a financial burden to your parish. I am grateful to Kris for her willingness to serve and know that she will provide excellent pastoral oversight of the Valley Region. I look forward to working with her in this new role and to the gifts and skills she will bring to the Bishop’s Advisory Council as an Archdeacon. Kris will be officially installed and welcomed into her new ministry as Archdeacon during the upcoming service of ordination at The Cathedral Church of All Saints on Monday, June 29, at 7:00 p.m. I encourage you and other parishioners of St. James Kentville to attend, if possible, as a sign of your support for her in this new leadership role. I know she values her ministry among you and feels blessed to serve as your Rector. As we journey through this season of Pentecost, may we all be encouraged by the hope and promise of the Holy Spirit and renewed in our call to use our gifts to serve God’s people.
Yours faithfully in Christ’s service,
The Right Reverend Sandra Fyfe, Diocesan Bishop
